I came upon Iris Apfel while reading an article called Garb Fest in T magazine by the lovely fashion reporter Lynn Yaeger. The latter was organizing a tea party with some of the most revered fashion savants in New York. Just reading the colour descriptions of clothing by Suzanne Golden, Patricia Fox, Tziporah Salamon said reporter and Iris Apfel was foreign to me.
Prada had her models parade across a flame red(womb like?) backdrop in a wardrobe full of desirable, voluminous tweed, fake fur or duvet tailoring, midi skirts andpumped up, primary coloured Mary Jane shoes. These are familiar proportions in fashion currently, but Prada gave the jackets just enough extra volume to make them seem edgy and threw in some bold colour combinations, including daffodil yellow and camel, bubble gum pink and Kelly green, orange and burgundy. Dark shirts were coordinated with contrasting ties (on the levity scale, these tended more towards the Joy Division end of things than Annie Hall).
Life is funny. On one hand, I’d say that 2018 has been a whirlwind so far thanks to fun festivities with friends and the non stop chaos from our crazy and cuddly Kona. But, when it comes to the 9 to 5, which consumes most of my life, 2018 has been anything but a whirlwind.
